The shift in university level teaching models from lectures to interactive learning experiences has been shown to increase undergraduate understanding. This article gives specific examples of how this is done for the introductory archaeology course at the University of Santa Barbara. It describes the use of multimedia teaching to engage students with the goal of creating an “informed citizenry with a lifetime interest in the past” (460).
